Hello, tomorrow is the book launch of the two children’s books that I have illustrated.

—————————————

“Ang Bonngang Bonggang Batang Beki!” (The Fierce and Fabulous Boy in Pink!) Written by Rhandee Garlitos and illustrated by Tokwa Penaflorida is the first picture story book in south east asia that that tackles about homosexual kids.

Rhandee Garlitos had a talk in school a few weeks ago with Carlo Vergara, Budjette Tan and Manix Abrera, and when he showed this storybook I fell in love with the illustrations. SO BROOTIFUL *u*

chuckgroenink:

This whole book was rather a challenge for me. The story called for a few pretty expansive drawings (Landscapes certainly have never been my forte) and it was set in a historical period, requiring a fair bit of research. Granted, that research mainly consisted of watching Monty Python’s Life of Brian.
The whole thing was 44 pages, with illustrations ranging from small spots to plenty of double page spreads.
And all of it was done in two months!

Before I got started though, I had to make a somewhat hard decision. Not being christian, there was a very distinct element to this book that I at its most basic level did not relate to, and to some degree found disagreeable.
But of course there were other things to consider as well, prosaic things like rent.
And I knew that when I was much younger, I went to a catholic school and absolutely loved reading biblical stories. The wonderful illustrations in the old children’s bible we had was the main reason for that. So I figured that I could do something similar now.
And perhaps it helped that I wasn’t overly reverent towards the story.

I basically treated it, as I would any other myth.

WHAT IS THIS BROOTIFUL…

About

I like drawing all the cutesy-patootsie childrenz of the world despite my passive-aggressive rants about the world and their douchebags.

Site will be forever under construction until I learn shit about web design.
